Did the Solar System Originate 10,000 Light-Years Away?

Image of the Milky Way galaxy. The solar system is currently located about 27,000 light years from the center of the Milky Way galaxy, but it is likely that it was about 10,000 light years closer to the Galactic center at its birth (credit: NAOJ).

A research team led by Dr. Junichi Baba, Project Associated Professor at NAOJ and Kagoshima University, has released their research results in a press release.
