Athena++: toward the best astrophysical MHD code

Kengo Tomida (Osaka University)

abstract:

Nowadays, numerical simulations are essential tools in astrophysics and many codes are publicly available. Athena++ is a new magnetohydrodynamics simulation code we develop in international collaboration led by Institute for Advanced Study / Princeton University. This code supports various physical processes in astrophysics, and adopts new concepts to improve the performance and parallel scalability. There is nothing like “One code to solve them all”, but we aim to make Athena++ a versatile, high-performance, easy-to-use, simply the best code in the field. In this presentation, I will explain the design and strategy of Athena++, some scientific results and future plans.
