As of April 2019, NAOJ<br>\nwill establish a new division called \u201cDivision of Science\u201d aiming to<br>\ndevelop new fields of growth in natural sciences for further<br>\nadvancement of astronomy by leveraging strategies such as: 1)<br>\nstrengthening synergies between theory and observations; 2) pushing<br>\nforward with multi-wavelength astronomy; and 3) encouraging creative<br>\nnew ideas that bring key innovation to astronomy (e.g. multi-messenger<br>\nastronomy). Along with the establishment of the new division, existing<br>\nfour divisions (Division of Theoretical Astronomy, Division of Radio<br>\nAstronomy, Division of Optical and Infrared Astronomy, and Division of<br>\nSolar and Plasma Astrophysics) will be dissolved.<br>\nAs one of the lead scientists at the Division of Science, the<br>\nsuccessful candidate is expected to explore the new possibilities in<br>\nastronomy and to take the initiative in promoting scientific<br>\nactivities that make impact on relevant research fields as well. The<br>\nresponsibilities of this position require continuously demonstrating<br>\nleadership and outstanding performance in research activities, and<br>\nalso fostering collaborations among NAOJ scientists to stimulate<br>\nproductivity of science by making the best use of NAOJ\u2019s strengths.<\/li><li>Terms of Appointment:<br>\nThe candidate should be able to start as soon as possible after the<br>\njob offer has been accepted.<br>\nIt is possible to continue in this position until NAOJ&#8217;s mandatory<br>\nretirement age.<\/li><li>Minimum Educational Requirement: Ph.D. or equivalent<\/li><li>Required Application Materials: (*To be prepared in English.
