National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) invites applications
\nfor a few professor positions in the division of science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  3. Area of Expertise: astronomy and\/or related fields<\/li>
  4. Job Description:
    \nThe National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) has been playing
    \na leading role in the forefront of astronomical research worldwide, as
    \nhas been demonstrated in the construction and operation of large-scale
    \nastronomical facilities such as Subaru telescope, ALMA, and ATERUI II
    \n(supercomputer for astrophysical simulations). As of April 2019, NAOJ
    \nwill establish a new division called \u201cDivision of Science\u201d aiming to
    \ndevelop new fields of growth in natural sciences for further
    \nadvancement of astronomy by leveraging strategies such as: 1)
    \nstrengthening synergies between theory and observations; 2) pushing
    \nforward with multi-wavelength astronomy; and 3) encouraging creative
    \nnew ideas that bring key innovation to astronomy (e.g. multi-messenger
    \nastronomy). Along with the establishment of the new division, existing
    \nfour divisions (Division of Theoretical Astronomy, Division of Radio
    \nAstronomy, Division of Optical and Infrared Astronomy, and Division of
    \nSolar and Plasma Astrophysics) will be dissolved.
    \nAs one of the lead scientists at the Division of Science, the
    \nsuccessful candidate is expected to explore the new possibilities in
    \nastronomy and to take the initiative in promoting scientific
    \nactivities that make impact on relevant research fields as well. The
    \nresponsibilities of this position require continuously demonstrating
    \nleadership and outstanding performance in research activities, and
    \nalso fostering collaborations among NAOJ scientists to stimulate
    \nproductivity of science by making the best use of NAOJ\u2019s strengths.<\/li>
  5. Terms of Appointment:
    \nThe candidate should be able to start as soon as possible after the
    \njob offer has been accepted.
    \nIt is possible to continue in this position until NAOJ’s mandatory
    \nretirement age.<\/li>
  6. Minimum Educational Requirement: Ph.D. or equivalent<\/li>
